Spotlight on PWD, DoE, Botanic Park

Coming on the heels of the Islands’ near brush with Hurricane Dean on Monday, 20 August, the Government Information Services (GIS) Spotlight television programme has been focusing on the Public Works Department’s (PWD) and its 20 years of hurricane preparations.

This feature, which first aired at the start of this year’s hurricane season, highlights the PWD’s critical role — for the last two decades the department has ensured that government buildings and shelters have been secured to face nature’s onslaughts.

Produced by GIS, the feature can be viewed on CITN this Thursday evening at 7:30 on Island 24.

Tonight’s segment will also focus on the Department of the Environment’s spearheading of local activities that are part of the worldwide Darwin Initiative. The initiative is a UK government scheme that promotes biodiversity protection and sustainable use of natural resources.

Still on the issue of the environment, the Spotlight camera will then pan to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, highlighting efforts to keep the people of Cayman connected to their local flora and fauna.
